Mindful spending this Christmas

Our friends at Westcountry Savings and Loans have some helpful tips on how to be mindful of your spending this Christmas.

Christmas can be a costly time for many of us and if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that you never quite know what could be around the corner.

Our friends at Westcountry Savings and Loans have got some great tips and advice on how to manage your money over the busy festive period and we’re sharing just a few here:

Spend Nothing Friday

The last Friday of November is often referred to in the retail calendar as Black Friday where lots of items go on sale to encourage consumers to buy in readiness for Christmas. Sure the discounts can be tempting but unless it’s something you really, really need or a gift for a loved one, try to be a bit more mindful of your spending before filling up your online basket.

Enjoy a Careful Christmas

The idea of #SpendNothingFriday is part of a wider initiative around enjoying a more ‘Careful Christmas’. It’s great to treat the family but it’s also handy to be mindful of just how much we’re spending during this time. Westcountry Savings and Loans have put together this really handy guide on helping cut costs this December.

Raising awareness of gambling

We know that some people find gambling enjoyable. Doing it in a sensible way can be fun for some, but it can also lead to challenging financial situations. There’s been a concerning increase in the number of problem gamblers this year and our friends at Westcountry Savings and Loans are working with GamCare to help people through it.

GamCare is the UK's leading provider of information, advice, support and free counselling for the prevention and treatment of problem gambling. If problem gambling is affecting you or someone close to you, their expert services are here to help. Find out more about the resources they have available here.
